Welcome Our New Patron Graham Edwards AM
We have recently been honoured to welcome Mr. Graham Edwards AM as our new Patron.
Graham is a bilateral amputee having lost both his legs in a landmine explosion in 1970 while on active service in the Australian Army during the Vietnam War. As a Patron with lived experience, Graham brings a unique perspective to this important role.
With his amazing can-do attitude and the mobility offered by his many wheelchairs over the years, Graham has amassed a long list of achievements and accolades. He was a parliamentarian with the WA Legislative Council from 1983 to 1997 and Federal Member of the House of Representatives in the seat of Cowan from 1998 to 2007.
He has also had a long association with the RSL and championing the voice of veterans. Following his retirement from politics, Graham found time to volunteer for WFKA. He travelled to Vietnam to see the impact our wheelchairs have made to the lives of children born with disability and those who have been victims of landlines left behind from conflict. With his lifetime of community service to both veterans and people with disability, Graham was awarded the Order of Australia 2012 and WA Senior of the Year 2016.
Graham is very enthusiastic about being back at WFKA to help us continue to raise the profile of our work and encourage more support across the community. As someone who knows firsthand the power of mobility, Graham’s goal is to support us to export more wheelchairs to more kids in more countries and make a lasting positive impact on their lives. It’s a vision we all share.
