Governor Kim Beazley visits Wheelchairs for Kids new manufacturing facility
On 24 October 2020, WA Governor – Kim Beazley visited Wheelchairs for Kids new impressive manufacturing facility in Wangara.
Upon arrival, the Governor was greeted by a cohort of retiree volunteers undertaking their regular Friday morning shift and who are a part of more than 240 part-time production workers.
Jon Bilson, Rotary Governor, Brother Olly Pickett, Factory Manager, Jim Joseph, Chair and Gordon Hudson, CEO showed the Governor around the factory and highlighted the overwhelming need for wheelchairs around the world.
Assembling more than 300 World Health Organisation compliant wheelchairs per month, Wheelchairs for Kids is seeking to raise more corporate funding in its plight to give mobility and freedom to children living in developing countries.
During a stroll through the factory he chatted with many of the retiree volunteers who produce 300 rough terrain wheelchairs per month, and to date have produced 46,000 to date, buying raw materials with donated funds.
