Help us lift vulnerable children off the ground,
and towards a brighter future
Globally, there are an estimated 10 million children who are in dire need of a wheelchair, but can’t access one due to economic factors or underdeveloped medical services in their country of origin. Confined to a life of crippling inequality on the earthen floor of huts, they are more vulnerable to disease, malnutrition and armed conflict, as well as experiencing lower educational attainment and higher rates of poverty.
As a donor to our Wheelchair Fund, you can be a part of the solution. While there is an inexhaustible demand for wheelchairs worldwide, every single wheelchair donated provides the invaluable gift of mobility, freedom and dignity to not only the recipient children—but entire community, with full-time carers freed to join the workforce and contribute to household income.
Corporate Partnerships
A corporate partnership is a unique opportunity for your organisation to make a positive impact on the lives of two of the most vulnerable groups globally; children with disabilities and the elderly.
Become A Volunteer
From organising fundraising drives to welding and assembling the wheelchairs or knitting rugs and toys for our recipient children, our volunteers perform varied roles across our organisation.
Leave A Bequest
Leaving a bequest to will help us to create a future where every child in need gets not only a wheelchair, but a second chance at life. Your support will change the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable children in the world.
Fundraising
Our current production rate is on average 3,000 to 3,500 per annum, with our volunteers working 10 months of the year. However, our factory has the ability to manufacture more than this, only limited by our financial means.
Monthly Giving
Wheelchairs for Kids provide 300 wheelchairs at present to children in need each month. But with an estimated 10 million children in dire need of a wheelchair worldwide, we are determined to continue growing our capacity.
Workplace Giving
A workplace donation program is a simple but effective way to support Wheelchairs For Kids. By signing up, we can continue to grow, creating more rough-terrain wheelchairs for children in impoverished communities around the world.
Donor Testimonials
“There are not many charities like Wheelchairs For Kids. The work they do, not only in providing the gift of mobility to children all over the world, but in fostering a sense of purpose and connection for enthusiastic volunteers is truly remarkable. At Home Integrity, we’re proud to contribute to their fantastic work as long-term donors. It’s something we’ve built into the fabric of our business.”
“It’s been wonderful to see the impact these chairs have on the children together with the dedication of the volunteers. That’s the reason I’ve continued to donate to Wheelchairs For Kids over the years. They help children become more mobile and to lead happier and more fulfilling lives.”
“I’ve enjoyed a long relationship as a donor with Wheelchairs For Kids over the last 20 years, providing them with complimentary cartons for shipping their wheelchairs overseas and around Australia. When I first visited the workshop, the whole operation impressed me. They not only help out thousands of children with disabilities around the world, but they have created such a great community of volunteers who no doubt benefit from the connection and sense of purpose found in their work. It’s truly a wonderful cause.”
Why Donate to our
Growth Development Fund?
We’ve developed a plan to ensure we can continue transforming the lives of children previously confined to a life at ground level—and it requires not only wheelchairs, but bricks and mortar facilities, high quality equipment, research and development and human resources.
Launched in 2020, our Growth Development Fund will ensure Wheelchairs For Kids can continue well into the future, raising capital for essential operational costs. In particular, the fund will enable:
Our new building
We’ve been generously sponsored AU$2M to purchase a building with a 10 year payback, but we can’t do this without your support. Fitted out with top of the range manufacturing equipment, our new building will increase our capacity to develop and manufacture wheelchairs to the highest international standards.
Research and development
There is much work to be done to ensure children with varying needs are supported, including those with cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis. To address this, we plan to conduct comprehensive research, development and field testing with leading engineers, scientists and disability advocates.
Our volunteer workforce
Led by a passionate team of predominantly retiree volunteers, we run our operations on a shoe-string budget. But as our organisation grows, this isn’t sustainable. So we are seeking funding to secure our financial future and enact a succession plan for our ageing management and operational team, who all currently act in a volunteer capacity.
